Archita Phukan’s fake profile and AI-created photos go viral, accused arrested

A man named Pratim Bora was arrested in Dibrugarh, Assam, for creating a fake social media profile of Archita Phukan and uploading her obscene pictures. According to the police, the accused Bora was a former partner of Phukan. He uploaded objectionable content with the intention of defaming and harassing the woman. Bora, a resident of Tinsukia, was operating this fake profile for several weeks, after which he was arrested on Saturday evening on the complaint of Phukan’s brother.

Archita Phukan, popularly known as Babydoll Archi, said that her photos were shared from a fake account after morphing them with American adult star Kendra Lust. The young woman from Assam said that her friends and acquaintances saw these morphed pictures viral on social media. Police said that Pritam Bora had gone into hiding, but his phone was traced and he was arrested from a rented apartment in Tinsukia. His phone and laptop have been seized and sent for forensic examination.

 

Why did Bora do this to Phukan

According to the police, during interrogation, accused Bora admitted that he had edited the photos by taking them from Phukan’s old social media posts. He said that he created this fake account due to anger and emotional disappointment after the relationship ended.

An FIR has been registered against Bora under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). Police said that sections of the Information Technology Act can also be added for cyber fraud, defamation, identity manipulation, obscenity and violation of privacy. Bora is in police custody and will be produced in court soon.
