The upgraded Passport Seva Programme 2.0 is now live across India, incorporating advanced and next-gen technologies aimed at boosting transparency, streamlining processes, and enhancing overall service efficiency.
What is an e-Passport
An e-passport, also referred to as a biometric passport, is a digitally enhanced travel document equipped with an embedded microchip. This chip securely holds the passport holder’s personal details, including their photo and biometric identifiers such as fingerprints and facial data.
By digitally encoding key identity information, e-passports significantly strengthen the security and authenticity of travel credentials. They offer improved protection against tampering and unauthorized use by allowing digital verification of crucial identity elements.
e-Passports: Highlights and Advantages:
The upcoming e-passports are advanced, chip-based biometric documents designed to improve identity authentication and reduce the risk of fraud. Key highlights include:
A built-in chip containing encrypted personal and biometric information
Biometric data such as facial image, iris scan, and fingerprints.
Contactless scanning technology for quicker processing at airports
Full adherence to ICAO’s international travel regulations
These next-gen passports offer enhanced security and smoother global travel experiences, aligning India with worldwide standards and expanding international access for its citizens.
