58-year-old Professor Muthayya died of a heart attack while drinking tea in Holenarasipura. 57-year-old Kumar, who was a D-group employee in Channarayapatna, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after chest pain, but could not survive.

Youth are also on the target Deaths in the age group of 19 to 25 years

Out of the 21 deaths so far, 5 were in the age group of 19 to 25 years and 8 were in the age group of 25 to 45 years. That is, almost two-thirds of the deceased were below 45 years of age. These figures have now started scaring everyone. According to the Hassan Health Department, in the last two years, 507 heart attack cases were reported in the district, out of which 190 have died.

There is now a crowd of people coming to Jayadeva Hospital in Bengaluru for heart checkup. There has been an increase of 8% in the OPD. People are nervous and everyone wants to get their heart checked. The hospital administration is also now troubled by this increasing crowd.

Investigation started, high-level committee formed

Looking at the seriousness of the whole matter, a high-level investigation committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Ravindranath. This committee is investigating the deaths in Hassan in depth. The instructions for the investigation have been given by the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Harsh Gupta.

The initial report said that out of the 18 cases investigated, 9 people were above 55 years of age and had pre-existing diseases, while 5 were a little over 20 – out of which 4 died in Bengaluru, but they were residents of Hassan.

The report revealed that many of the deceased had type-1 diabetes, high blood pressure and some other chronic diseases. The most frightening thing is that 16 of these people died at home, meaning they could not get timely treatment.

Genetic reasons also suspected

Doctors say that it is possible that the heart muscles of Hassan’s population may be affected due to some genetic reason. Dr. Ravindranath’s team is also investigating this aspect in depth.

This is the same committee that was earlier formed to investigate the increasing cases of heart attack after Covid-19. Now it has been asked to call for the files of every case in Hassan and submit the report within 10 days.
